Boundary-layer measurements, profiling, and sensor R&D
Boundary-layer measurements and atmospheric profiling to gather fine-scale thermodynamic (temperature, moisture) and kinematic (wind) measurements in the lower atmosphere. We use in situ and remote sensors including ground-based profilers and UAS, with R&D spanning the full sensor ecosystem — from base research and evaluation through implementation, operations, transition, and commercialization.
Observing Platforms
Utilization of Doppler lidars, microwave radiometers, infrared spectrometers, and surface flux towers to continuously observe atmospheric boundary layer structure. UAS platforms — including the CopterSonde — provide flexible in situ profiling of thermodynamic and kinematic quantities where and when they are needed.
Field Campaigns
Leading and participating in intensive observational field campaigns to calibrate instruments and study fine-scale atmospheric phenomena.
